Sponge’s history goes all the way back to 1985, but still it stands among the best pastry shops in town. The serve some good savories, desserts and cakes.
The Sponge bakery located at Kollupitiya has a nice ambience. It is a two storied building and the ground floor is the best fit for a quick bite. It has neat wooden tables and chairs that can handle around 30 people at once. The first floor has comfy sofas, where you can hangout while having some good food.
We ordered a bunch of food, not only because we were dying hungry but also out of the greediness.
The Blueberry cheesecake at Sponge, It was creamy, and the crust was covered with fresh blueberries. The sugar was properly balanced, but the only let down was its slight denseness.
The Caramel tart was delicious. The tart was crunchy, and it was filled with cahsews dipped in caramel.
This is the Dobas cake. It had a nice chocolaty flavour but we did not like the icing since it was sugary than we expected.
We loved the Fruit tart. The same crunchy tart was used in here, and on top of it, there was a cherry, grape, piece of mango, and peach. And the rest was filled with cashew nuts. It was delightful.
The only disappointment was the Orange juice. It was just orange flavoured Sunquick.
There is nothing much to mention about the service. You can place the order from the counter and collect it. Basically, it is self service.
Sponge is one of the places in Colombo that you can grab some quality bakery items, for a decent price tag. We are happy about our experience here, and hoping to visit back soon.
